How Invisalign Works

All orthodontic treatments work by applying sustained pressure to the teeth in order to gradually shift them into their proper positions. Whereas traditional braces do so with brackets and wires, Invisalign takes a different approach. It uses custom-made clear plastic aligners. You wear each set of aligners for about two weeks, keeping them in your mouth for around 22 hours each day. As you work your way through your series of aligners, your teeth should gradually get closer to their ideal places. Periodically throughout your time with Invisalign, you should visit us so we can monitor your progress. The average total treatment time with Invisalign is around 12 months, though some cases require more or less time.

Indications for Invisalign

Invisalign is an effective way to treat a range of dental misalignment cases. Here are a few examples of issues that it is commonly used to correct:

Crowded Teeth

Crowded, overlapping teeth can trap food between them and increase your risk of cavities and gum disease. Invisalign may be able to shift your teeth in a way that gives each one the space it needs to function optimally (and it can make oral hygiene much easier, too).

Gaps Between Teeth

Gaps between your teeth can leave your gums vulnerable to irritation and harm. Invisalign may be able to move your teeth closer together and eliminate those unwanted spaces.

Invisalign is an effective means of treating various types of malocclusions (bad bites). For example, it may be used for overbites, underbites, crossbites, and open bites.

The Benefits of Invisalign

Some of the top benefits of Invisalign include:

  • Short treatment timelines: You can usually achieve your desired results in about 12 to 18 months, which tends to be faster than traditional braces.
  • No dietary restrictions: You can remove your aligners when you eat, so you do not have to avoid any of your favorite foods during treatment.
  • Hassle-free oral hygiene: Cleaning your teeth is easy because you simply take out your aligners to brush and floss as you normally would.
  • Fewer check-in visits: You will spend less time at the dentist since Invisalign typically requires fewer appointments than braces.
  • Designed for comfort: The smooth, custom-fit aligners are made to minimize irritation to your mouth and gums.
  • Nearly invisible appearance: The clear aligners are discreet, so most people will not notice that you are straightening your teeth.

How Much Does Invisalign Cost?

The cost of Invisalign depends on a few different factors. Generally speaking, the price is in the same ballpark as that of traditional braces. During your consultation, we will learn about the details of your case before we provide a personalized cost estimate. We will also make sure you know about your payment options. For example, we welcome insurance, and we accept financing through CareCredit. We even have a convenient in-house savings plan.
